The time is finally here to be able to share a few of the photos that were taken awhile back of our living room now that it’s mostly complete. I’ll shed some light on all the details as the next few weeks come upon us, but for now I’ll finally show a few photos as I think I’ve made some of you wait too long to see them.
This room was started last July 2011, with a hefty work list to complete, while working on our kitchen redesign as well. With both of us working from home, 2 busy kids, and all that goes with being a family, this project really took awhile to complete. The one thing that both of us love the most about Renovations, building, and design is that there were endless ways to create a unique look that we were looking for within a reasonable budget.
This Hefty list included, framing and redesigning the fireplace mantle, building the book shelf built-ins, installing custom designed crown molding, and new window moldings and all new base boards. Plus so many other details! It’s all completed, and I designed the layout so that the room would be very versatile to move furniture around, add new pieces, or bring in new pieces from other rooms of the house.
This is a heavily used room of our home. This is where the kids watch morning cartoons, my son plays trains on the floor, my daughter who wants to be an artist or librarian one day reads endless books, we entertain with friends, and so much more!
It’s been a labour of love, that both Darryl and I have shared together. A lot of late nights on weekends, dust, paint, more paint, and more paint.
Welcome to my Living Room!

Thanks so much Janis! Darryl and I love working together on these types of projects.
Really beautiful Jodi and Darryl. Well worth all the effort!!!
Thanks carol!
Gorgeous! What a fantastic job guys…enjoy!
Thanks so much Lily! We love it too!
Absolutely Stunning!! I love all the little details that are adding pops of color all over the room. I really want an orange elephant like yours to live at my house. Where can I find him? Thanks for sharing – you did an amazing job!
You can see the labour of love in both the room and the photos. Well done, well done!!!
Yay, the post I’ve been waiting for… well standing in line behind Tracey 😉 This is just beautiful, Jodi and Darryl! And I totally love the way you have styled it. That bar cart is to die for… and is that wooden bowl a Baribocraft? With a room like this I can see many, many more hours of enjoyment to come! Way to go you two!!!
Totally worth the wait! I love how comfortable it looks with all the vintage finds. So much character. Fantastic job both of you! Tell me about your curtains, did you make them, have them made or purchase them ready to go?
The curtains were a bit of a splurge. Jodi had them custom made. I love them, well as much as person can love a set of curtains.
WOWZA! From someone who has seen this room in person it looks even just as amazing in photos! Styled so beautifully! Love it all…..you two are a talented duo! Magazine worthy
As amazing as I remember it!!! LOVE your style, and Darryl’s pics! 🙂

An absolutely gorgeous well curated room. Everywhere the eye lands I want to linger and soak in the composition. The photography showcases this good design, well edited, truly beautiful room.
What a truly beautiful room. You did any amazing job, it’s peaceful, functional, hip and not trendy. I read around on your blog about some of the personal details and touches. Really nice, glad I found you!
Thanks Nicole for the kind words. It was a joy to work on this room!
What color did you paint this room?
Hi Elaine, I used Dolphin Fin by Behr!
I absolutely love this room! Who did your fireplace?
In our home, all of the building is done by me after Jodi comes up with the plan.
We are in the process of rebuilding our living room and right now my husband has just framed out the fireplace. We’re unsure of built in’s or buying furniture to go on either side. Regarding your cabinets, are they kitchen cabinets, living furniture? I love it and I love that room. Great job. So serene.
Thx you for your kind comments. The cabinets are from ikea from their besta series and we wall mounted them.
Beautiful room! One suggestion – paint the piano a dramatic black
That would be nice, however my grandma purchased the Piano, and painting pianos is where I draw the line. Thx for your comment.
Do you have the plans available for the fireplace? I would like to do the same with ours.
Paul
No I’m sorry. The design plan was a build as you go… Good luck. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Hi, could you please share the measurements of your fireplace?
Hi poppy, I’ve tried emailing you a few times, but it has bounced back. Can you please email me at jodi@simplyinspireddesign.com
Thanks,
Jodi
