TAG, You’re It!

My friend Sheila over at SZ Interiors tagged me in a fun little question and answer game, and today I’m ‘telling all’ as I answer her questions! So kick back and enjoy ;-)  But this is only part of the fun, because I get to tag a whole new group of bloggers and pass the ‘tell all’ on to them! And just a little housekeeping before we get started…

RULES

  • You must post the rules!
  • Answer the 11 questions the tagger posted for you , and then create 11 new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged.
  • Tag 11 people and link them in your post.
  • Let them know you’ve tagged them.

Here we go, this is what Sheila wanted to know about little ol’ me!

  •  What’s the biggest complement you could be given as a result of your blog?

I have sort of gotten this compliment before, but I would hope that someone tell me that they admire me for starting a new career in my 30′s and showing my children what living a passionate and honest life looks like!

  • What gets you out of bed in the morning, keeps you awake at night?
Honestly my alarm clock and knowing that coffee brewing is just 20 steps away from me.  I love being a Mom, a wife, and designing, but I’m just human.  I love my bed, and it loves me!  Thinking about design keeps me awake.  I was blessed with being a good sleeper, so I rarely stay awake for more than 2 minutes. But…. Being Hungry keeps me awake.  I lay there and dream of pizza, Vietnamese food, and so on…  Crazy I know.

  • How do you recharge?

My work outs really recharge me, a long and hot shower before bed, and a good Design Magazine.  I’m a simple gal.

  • What is your most cherished family tradition?

One of our traditions is going camping with my side of the family every summer.  It gets better every year.  We all love to eat, go hiking, play outdoor games, and just laugh our heads off. The kids can hardly wait each summer and memories are building all the time.

  • If you could pick anything on any menu, what would it be?
Oooh… that’s a hard one Sheila!  I would have to say that one of the meals that I love is free range chicken with creamy Tortellini, asparagus, seasonal veggies alway get my taste buds, OH and Chocolate cheesecake for afterwards.  Did i mention wine?  Yeah at least 2 glasses of wine.  No… make it 3 glasses of wine.

  • What’s in your closet that’s seen better days, but somehow you just can’t let go?

My grandma made  me this little “granny” that sits on a chair  out of a real dried up apple when I was a little girl .  She attached a body made of hard foam, added clothes, shaped the face and added eyes, a mouth, and lipstick. It’s all dried up and has yet to go moldy and it’s so special because it’s a reminder of how creative she really was!  I’m grateful that I received this creativity from her and I doubt I’ll ever throw it away.  You really have to see it to believe it!

  • What’s a lasting lesson your mother (or father, grandparent, or…) taught you?

My Grandma taught the value of a Garden and eating foods from the dirt we walk on. She always had a Large veggie garden when I was  a young girl.  I loved going out and picking fresh lettuce, and fresh raspberries to go in the milkshakes she always made for us.

  • Are you seeing a make-up trend that you’d rather see gone?

I really don’t keep up with any make up trends, but Honestly dark sky blue eyeshadow isn’t on the High list for me.

  • Boots. What style is your style?

I prefer anything from high boots with a classic feel, short boots and everything from hiking boots, to snowboarding boots!

  • If you inherited an antique piece of furniture, would you modify it in any way? Where would you draw the line?
It would all depend on the structure and condition of the piece.  If the drawers really needed work and it remained in a room that seen a lot of use then I would fix the drawers.  Another way of modifying it of course would be through paint.  Sometimes antique pieces need to be painted and sometimes they really are best to leave in their original state.  It would greatly depend on the look I was going after.  Always weigh your options, because after you put that first drop of paint on it, you can never have the piece back in its original form again.

  • What’s hot, what’s not in decor?

Hot in decor for me these days is mixing old and new.  Mid century and Modern and a little bit of everything else.  I feel that it really gives a room a overall put together feel and lived in for that matter. What the old and used is lacking the New fills in the gaps and the other way around.   I always challenge myself to design a room around high-end items with a little bit of low-end.  It’s a look that I’m drawn to I guess.

What’s not?  That’s easy.  When I see people just buying new, new, new.  It takes time to curate a space  so it doesn’t look like  a showhome, or a catalogue.  I think it’s a place where all people creative want to be with their homes and takes practice to get your look right,  so keep trying!

  1. Thanks so much for tagging me Jodi!! I’ve been tagged 3 times, so instead of answering 33 questions (haha!!) I think I’m going to select a few from each person and post on Wednesday!
My grandparents taught me the same lesson. We used to visit them and come home with yogurt containers full of raspberries in the summers. They were always out there planting, weeding, working away. It’s how I remember them.

  2. Thanks for playing along, Jodi! It was so nice to get to know you a little bit better, and I really liked your answer to whether or not you would modify an antique. I think your cautionary words are key, because you are so right, once that first drop of paint hits the antique, it is forever changed.

I hope you have a fantastic week ahead!

  3. Thanks for tagging me! I was tagged last week and my post was up on Thursday! I might answer a few this week on another post!

  4. Hey, I have that same family tradition of camping too! Glad to know someone else that makes the trek with the whole family ;)
Great to learn more about you Jodi. Thanks for “tagging” me. I’ll get to this soon…I was just tagged by another lovely blogger too. Fun!

  5. Tracey says:

Love finding out about other bloggers!!! It’s nice to hear that being a mom and combining work and family is possible….. AND still take time for yourself. I have my bath ritual before bed, it totally knocks me out. I think I might have to gather all of these invitations for this tag game and combine the questions for one massive post.
